Spain’s Multicultural Past

Many cultures have passed across the narrow Straits of Gibraltar separating Western Europe and northern Africa.  Much of Spain’s art, music, and even food still reflect influences from North America and beyond, and its architecture, though basically Christian in form, often bears unmistakable characteristics of ancient Islam’s greatest thinkers.  Examples of these and other exciting cross cultural connections, for example those from the early Roman Empire and the ancient Teutonic Goths who succeeded it, are abundant throughout Spain even today.  In this 2 part documentary, we explore some of the 38 World heritage sites on the Iberian Peninsula, and examine the rich mixtures of cultures and civilizations that created them.
