The Birth of Buddhism
Shot in India and in Nepal, this docu-drama highlights the first moments of a great religion, returning to a time when everything was still possible, a time of hesitation and
uncertainty. Travellers and Masters today who visit the places where Buddha lived experience the same feelings he did and attempt to understand the same issues he raised.
Why did Siddharta leave his palace and his family? What was this new way he taught to eliminate suffering? How can we bear the loss of people we love? This docudrama
recreates history and focuses on “the man who became Buddha” : many scenes presented here have never been shown in other movies about Buddha’s life: Siddhârtha’s curiosity towards wandering philosophers, his father’s anger, Sujata’s offering, the last meal and the death. These extremely moving scenes belong neither to historical truth nor to fantastic legends: they unveil a truly human quest and, therefore, the origins of Buddhism’s principles.
